A Little Helps
These are the charities Claire Hanley supports, helping them raise funds or awareness for their cause.
Support our Friends
Skillet Dublin
Skillet is a social charity setup by the Irish food community that gives training and support to those at risk of long–term unemployment or encountering barriers to gaining employment.
Skillet acts as a training and support link by offering a series of food–related programmes and social events with the Irish food community. Through this initiative, Skillet aims not only to enhance its participants’ skills and capacity to find employment, but also to serve as a mutually beneficial bridge between the local urban and the Irish food communities.
In 2014, Claire Hanley was asked by Anthony O’Toole, Chairperson and Kitchen Director of Skillet, to become a committee member and mentor for Skillet. Delighted to get involved in the initiative, Claire gave Skillet a training base in the kitchens and dining halls of King’s Inns.
For our first project, five young participants from inner city Dublin undertook an intensive 2–week culinary training programme. They quickly developed their cooking and service skills learning from some of the food industry’s best who also work with Skillet. After the two weeks the participants had to plan, cook and serve a pop–up dinner at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, St. Stephen’s Green. It was a triumph.
Capuchin Day Centre
Annually, we host a coffee morning for Brother Kevin Crowley to raise funds for The Capuchin Day Centre on Bow Street in Dublin 7. We are grateful always to our clients and customers of Hanley at the bar for their support. The Capuchin Day Centre has been helping people since 1969 offering hot meals and a warm place to eat, and providing groceries to those who need them.
